Belu: "We'll go to the Worlds with the gymnasts that have a chance at a medal"
The Executive Committee of the RFG decided monday that gymnasts Monica Rosu and Alexandra Eremia will be temporarily excluded from the olympic squad until their their weight and medical problems are addressed. Rosu has an interdiction again for a month, while Eremia is recovering after an apendectory. After their exclusion Rosu and Eremia will return to their clubs, SC Bacau and Steaua Bucharest.
Coach Belu clarified the decision "All olympic team members' current conditions were analyzed and evaluated their potential for the upcoming Worlds. At the end of the meeting it was decided to temporarily demote Rosu and Eremia from the squad. The two had weight problems that have yet to be resolved and this was coupled with a lack of desire to train at maximum capacity for the Worlds." If the two will show at trails and at the upcoming Nationals that they've regained their form the door for their return will be open. The established goal for the Worlds is a medal. Regarding Catalina Ponor, Belu stated that during her World's performance she will debut a FX exercise almost completely different than her previous exercise.
After the demotion of Rosu and Eremia, Belu sated that he will only take those gymnasts who have chances at getting a medal to Australia. "We never thought about not participating at the Worlds and this has never been discussed by the Executive Committee. We'll participate with those gymnasts that are able to compete for medals. Our goal is the same as always, to win medals. The Euros were a lesson for us. We went with 3 girls, when we could've gone with just one for that single medal and received a 100% success rate".
